Abstract The objective of the present study is to determine the adsorption rate of Cu and Zn on clay minerals and soils as influenced by different factors. In addition, the release of pre-retained Cu or Zn from clay minerals and soils is also studied. The adsorbed Cu and Zn increase by increasing the contact time. Cu adsorption reaches equilibrium after 12-24 h, and Zn after 24 h. The amount of sorbed Cu and Zn is affected by different adsorbents. Metal adsorption is much lower and is affected by pH variations. The amount of adsorbed Cu and Zn increases with increasing the added salt. The ability of different extracts to release the pre-retained metal can be arranged in the following orders: Dz> EDTA> 0.1 N HCL>KCL+HOAC>NH4 OAC. |
