Abstract

In this thesis, the effective absorption cross sections for the isotopes u-235, u-238, pu-240 and pu-241 at several resonances and temperatures which are useful for any reactor designer are calculated by means of the -x- functions. the nuclear data used for the utilised code ”EGCODE” is adjusted specially after using the self shielded cross sections of both u-238 and pu-240 so as to minimize as possible the errors in the cell parameters. the 76 groubs cross section library is thus qualified (at different emperatures) for cell calculations. also a two-group cross section library is proposed (as a result of the persent calculations) to be used for reactor core calculations of uranium or plutonium fuel cells.
The ”EGCODE” with the 76 group library is applied to calculate the cell parameters for ten light water lattice cell cases, six cases are for UO2 fuel and the other four cases are for uo2-puO2 fuel. the comparison between experimental , the french code ”APOLLO” and the presented results show that the modified egyptian nuclear lattice cell code ”EGCODE” is now qualified as well as the french code ”APOLLO”.
