Abstract

A Geographic information system GIS is computer based tools or software for mapping which store the information as a collection of thematic layers or data sets that can be linked by geography.They serve as tools to analyze and map the data in support of the decision making process. It has several relations with other scientific fields such as: Geography, remote sensing, photogrammetry, surveying, statistics and other computer sciences.It can be used to solve many problems in different fields such as: planning, health, education, transportation, economic, geology,etc. The old maps have to be updated as a result of a continual development and growth.That process can be done using the modern technology of satellite imagery.One of the major problems that face the education in Egypt, especially in the basic education stages (primary and preparatory) is the inhomogeneous distribution of schools and the high capacity of students due to the rapid population growth.GIS has been used to solve these problems using GIS tools for analyzing the distribution of schools and to help the decision maker to choose the best location of new schools, if required. A mathematical model is suggested to determine the suitable school construction location according to some important conditions where these conditions have diiferent weights according to its importance in the selection.The selected study area contains high population density at basic education stages and it needs new schools to contain that exceeding number of students.GIS concepts can be used to solve this problem, so Hadayak El Koba district was selected as a study area.All sources of data for the study area were gathered from general authority of educational buildings GAEB and statistics mobilization central authority SMCA.This investigation results can help in increasing the efficiency of the educational process in Hadayek El-Kobba district.VISUAL BASIC program is designed for applying the sugggested mathematical model and it is linked to autodesk map 5.0 program to show the precentage of suitability of the tested new school locations directly on the drawing to choose the most suitable one.
