Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to study the neutrino masses, mixing, and leptogenesis
in a low energy ( <∼ 1TeV ) B−L extension of the Standard Model (SM),
which is based on the gauge group SU(3)C × SU(2)L × U(1)Y × U(1)B−L.
We show that this model provides a natural explanation for the presence
of three right-handed neutrinos. Therefore, it can account for the current
experimental results of the light neutrino masses and their large mixing. We
emphasize that light neutrino masses can be generated through the seesaw
mechanism if the Dirac neutrino masses are of order 10−4 GeV. This range
of Dirac neutrino mass is consistent with possible relations which may be
obtained between the observed quark and lepton masses.
