Abstract
The objectives of this study are : (1 ) synthesiS of new furanones by condensation of ,b-p-isopropyl benzoylpropionic acid with aromatic aldehydes, isothin, phthalimide, pthalic anhydrides. (2) synthesis of new pyrrolones by condensation of p-p-isopropylbenzoylpropionic acid with ketones in presence of ammonium acetate (3) to study the behaiviour of the heterocyclic ring of aryldene furanones towards the action of amines, bases, hydrazines and ammonium acetate (4) to study the behaviour of the heterocyclic ring of the arylidene furanones under freidel-crAfts conditions in both inert and reactive solvents. (5) to study the reactivity of the furanone ring in the phthalide system towards the action of hydrazine and alkaline hydrolysis. (6) to study the behaviour of pyrrolin-5-ones under the friedel crafts coNditions. Detailed experimental work is described. Results obtained and discussions are stated clearly.
