Abstract Anaemia is a series public health problem in Egypt, as it is in most developing countries. The effective con trol of anaemia requires the identification of its causes as well as the. ecological factors which intensify its pre valence. To achieve this goal this study was initiated to investigate the prevalence of anaemia among preschool children in Alexandria and to identify the various ecolo gieal factors associated with its occurrence among these children. This is assumed to provide possible help to responsible health authorities to plan effective programs for control of this disease. A sample of 350 preschool children attending some H.C.II. centres and Ghehrial and El Shatby day care centres were tested haematologically to determine the prevalence of anaemia as well as the type of anaemia most frequently observed. Stool and urine examinations were also performed to determine the prevalence of parasitic infection among , them. The data collected included: 1. Personal and socioeconomic data. 2.
