Abstract The present study was carried out at Gemmieza Animal Production Research Station and Sakha Animal Production Research Laboratories, Animal Production Research Institute, Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt in cooperation with Dept. ofAnim. Prod., Fac. ofAgric., Kafr El-Shiekh, Tanta Univ. during the period through 2003 and 2004. The objective of this study to investigate the effect of substituting buffalo milk with cow milk in suckling newborn buffalo calves on their productive performance and feed cost. Thirty-two newborn buffalo calves (16 male and 16 female) with average birth live body weight of 42.00 and 39.19 for male and female, respectively. The calves were divided randomly into four similar groups (4 male and 4 female calves each). Then they were kept in individual rearing pens. All calves were suckled whole buffalo milk individually by using plastic buckets and teats till 7 days old. This study was divided into two experimental periods. Suckling period from the 7th day to 105 days old and post weaning period form 106 day to 180 days old as well as overall mean of the experimental period included both periods (suckling and post weaning periods) was stated. |
