Abstract
This work was carsied out in the Experimental Farm of the Agriculture Faculty, Tanta Univ. during the winter seasons of 1996-97 and 1997-98. The main objective of this work was to improve the production and quality of table beet crop in Gharbia Governorate. The study included the effect of some nitrogen sources (80 lcglfed.) such as urea (46% N), ammonium sulphate (20.6% N), calcium nitrate (15.5% N) and ammonium nitrate (33.5% N). Also, the effect of sulphur treatments as sulphur at 50 and 100 kg/fed., ammonium thiosulphate (ATS) at 2% and 4% (as a percentage of nitrogen fertilizer) and without sulphur. The experiments were designed as a split-plot with four replications and the cultivar used was Detroit Dark Red. The study included vegetative growth, yield, root characteristics, and chemical analysis.
