Abstract Infection of ascitic fluid is a common complain in Egypt. It is either spontaneous or follow a previous paracentesis.(1)(S.B.P) represented 30of all patients with ascites and that it was associated with a 30 - 40mortality rate despite the rapid infection resolution. (51,52,53,54) The present study aimed to determine the bacterial profile of refractory ascitic patients.This study was carried out on one hundred patients undergoing therapeutic paracentesis at Alexandria Main University Hospital. A full relevant information sheet was full filled for each of them. Ascitic fluid samples were collected from all patients. All ascitic samples were subjected to : 1. Direct microscopic examination. 2. Total leucocytic count. 3. Culture on blood culture bottles, then subculturing on blood MacConkey agar plates and incubation over night at 37oC under aerobic conditions, it was followed by full identification of isolates according to standard methods for bacteriological examination described by Bailey and Scott’s. |
