Abstract

Immunization against the most common and deadly childhood liseases saves the lives of some one million children in kveloping countries each year. But more than 3.5 million others lIe killed or disabled by diseases that immunization could have !reven ted . Concerted efforts are now underway to expand lIIunization services to all the world’s infants and pregnent !OIen by 19 90 . The aim of this study is to assess the degree of vaccination tOverageof children during the second year of life. termediate targets are to: Measure vaccination coverage in rural Assiut Governorate. ~ssess the nutritional status of children as an indicator of physical growth. Study morbidity in last 6 months. )tudy background childhood mortality in areas of the study. The tools used for collection data of the study were: Records of health units and health districts. Interviewing questionnaire wi th the mother. Anthropmetric measurements of the child (20-24 month). Multistage sample was drawn from rural Assiut Governorate are follows: ­ .- A) The first stage was a sample of one third of districts of Assiut Governorate (3 out 10 distr icts) . i! The second stage was a sample of one third of villages from above districts chosen randomly. Cl A subsample will be drown randomly from above villages using the same fraction (one third) for studying the health profile a~ relating to the vaccination coverage (824 child). !he study revealed the following results: Vaccination coverage: The percentage of completely vaccinated children in rural Assiut Governorate was 38.1
