Abstract

a) A healthy mouth is important for a healthy body. It is essential to improve oral health education, prevention and treatment services for school-aged pupils, who are at risk for oral diseases. One way to improve the dental health of children is through education, by helping pupils to learn more about the importance of regular dental care, to ensure that they will get the care they need. Social and economic factors, as well as diet and behaviors, help maintaining a healthy smile and preserving teeth during these challenging adolescent years. The present study was designed to assess oral health condition and its relation to dental care seeking among preparatory school pupils in Alexandria Governorate. A cross sectional random sample was selected for this study. The study was carried out in the preparatory schools in Alexandria. The sample size was 480 pupils. Data were collected through the use of interview questionnaire and dental examination of oral health status of the pupils. The questionnaire included data about socioeconomic status of the pupils, dental health knowledge, components of H.B.M, dental health practices, utilization of dental care services and indices for assessment of pupil’s oral health status.
