Abstract

To precise the immune state in children on chronic hemodialysis and the possible impact of some nutrients supplementation, we studied 40 patients aged from 6 to 13 years. The study also included 10 apparently healthy controls of match able age and sex. The study was conducted in the period between November 1994 to December 1996 in pediatric department of Assiut university hospital. Besides full history and clinical examination all the cases and controls were subjected to the following investigations before our therapy protocol. Complete blood picture, plasma levels of vitamin C, vitamin B6 and zinc. In addition tests to study the immunological state were done for cases and controls including, total percentage of T-lymphocytes (CD3), T-lymphocytes subsets percentages (CD4 and CD8, CD4/CD8 ratio), estimation of serum level of sIL-2R, C3,C4 and lymphoblastic transformation index as well as the purine nucleotides metabolizing enzymes; Adenosine deaminase in plasma and in erythrocytes, 5-nucleotidase enzyme in plasma and erythrocytes and adensine monophosphate deaminase enzyme in erythrocytes, the studied case were classified into 4 groups, each group was formed of 10 patients and each group was subjected to a specific regimen of supplementation (vitamin C, vitamin B6 and zinc or all 3 nutrients).
