Abstract

Forensic serology is the application of immunological, serological and biochemical methods to blood, body fluids and their stains. Forensic serology has made great progress and become a highly specialized field within the forensic sciences. Forensic serology has resulted from the explosion of knowledge and information about genetic markers in human blood and body fluids.Genetic markers typing has two principal forensic serological applications: - Identification: It helps in proving identity in criminal cases and in disaster victims, i.e. to ascertain the possible source of blood stains or body fluids in circumstances of murder, wounding, rape or vehicular accidents, also to assist in fitting human parts disintegrated in air and rail crashes. -Paternity problems: It is employed in cases of disputed paternity, so as almost every man wrongly named as the father of a child can be excluded from paternity by the genetic marker findings.
