Abstract Analysis of RV function is considered difficult and burdened with inaccuracies. The major difficult ?elates to the complex shape of the RV chamber. Contraction and relaxation of the ventricles along the long axis plays an important role for cardiac function. The motion of mitral and tricuspid annulus reflects shortening of the ventricles along the long axis. Because of the simplicity of recording the annular motion, some previous studies, have used the amplitude of tricuspid annular motion at RV fiee wall in assessment of RV function. Recent development of a new technique that uses Doppler tissue imaging (DTT) to analyze myocardial velocities open up a new way to assess cardiac function. DTI is a :modified Doppler teclmique that allows measurements of low velocities from the myocardial wall several reports have been published already on DTI and ventricular function. However, this technique has not been used to the same extent to assess RV function after MI. |
