Abstract
Vascular complications, as a consequence of atherosclerosis are increased two to four folds in patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, in comparison to non-diabetic subjects. However the mechanism by which diabetes leads to atherosclerosis and its complications has not been established.The aim of the present study is to evaluate the level of lipid peroxidation products (TBARS) and total antioxidant status (TAO) in the pathogenesis of vascular complications in non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Also to find any correlation between them and glycated haemoglobin as a measure of diabetic metabolic control.
