Abstract

The present work dealt with ecological and taxonomic studies of family Cecidornyiidae in Egypt. I- Ecological studies: A- Collection Adult cecidomyiids were collected from seven localities at four Governorates, Qaluobyia, South Sinai, El-Behira, Halib & Shalatin by light traps and as galls during the period from August 1996 to July 1998. A total 2547 individuals were collected from the four Governorates, 2497 from Qaluobiya, 25 from El-Behira, 17 from South Sinai and 8 from Halaib& Shalatin The total number collected representing 21 species of 16 genera, 9 tribes and two subfamilies ( Lestremiinae and Cecidomyinnae). Only one species , Aphidoletes aphidirnyza Rondani from the old list was collected by light trap from Qaluobyia Governorate. The other species (20 species belonging to 15 genera, and two subfamilies) were collected for the first time from Egypt as follows: Four species in subfamily Lestremiinae from Qaluobiya and El-Beheira Governorates.
