Abstract

Three pot experiments were carried out at the Experimental Farm of Horticulture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Kafr EI-Sheikh, Tanta University during two successive seasons of] 993/94 and 1994/95 to study the effect of some N, P and K fertilization treatment s trace elements of Cu and Zn as mineral or chelated forms, and some growth regulators (Gal and kinetin), on the vegetative growth, yield of herb , oil quantity and quality and chemical composition of Thymus vulgaris L plants. The first experiment included 13 fertilization treatments of N, P and K, these treatments were N0P0K0 (control), NoP IKI , NOP2K I, NtPtK1, N1P1K1, N1P.1KI , N2P1K1, N2P1KI , N:;P1K” N..P2K1 and N3P3K j as Nl = 5.0, N2 = 10.0 and N3 = 15.0 g/pot of amunonium sulphate (20.6% N), PI = 5.0, P2 = 10.OandP)=15.0glpot,ofcalcium superphosphate (1 6.0% P20 S) and K1 as one dose of 5.0 g/pot, potassium sulphate (48% K20 ). The doses of fertilizers were added at 2 times for each cut. The second experiment consisted of 13 treatments of Cu and Zn as mineral or chelated fOI1DS at the levels of 80, 120 and 160 ppm for each element of each form. Foliar application was done four times during the growth season . The plants were harvested two times through season. The third experiment included 7 treatments of either GA” at 25, 50 and 100 ppm or kinetin at 10, 20 and 30 ppm beside the control which was sprayed with tap-water only. The plants were twice sprayed for each cut after 4 and 8 weeks from transplanting or harvesting.
