Abstract The ornamental bulbs occupy a pre-eminent place amongst the flowers. They are used particularly in production of commercial cut flowers and landscape, owing to their exquisite shape and fascinating colour, as well as, the pleasant odour of flowers of some of such bulbs. Of the most important bulbous plants that originate in South Africa are Antholyza, Agapanthus and Tritonia, which haven’t yet been studied from either the economic point of view or their agricultural practices requirements in Egypt. Antholyza aethiopica L. (Photo 1) belonged to Fam. Iridaceae, (name from the Greek, referring to fancied shape of flower) grown in the open for spring and early summer, bloom, red and yellow, they are bearing several sword-shaped leaves (1 in) broad and 1-1.5 ft. long, spike 6-9 in, many-fld, with wavy rachis. |
