Abstract

Numerous species belonging to family . Scarabaeidae have been recorded in E9ypt 1eng time ago. Some were even well known in ancient Egypt. Scarabaeid beetles were oftenly kept under natural control in cur country with the exception of few members of the family. However, there was considerable change in the situation during the last few year. An increase of the numbers of some scerabaeids was recently recorded. to some cases the situation was unprecedented and the outbreak of the population was uncontrollable. Serious losses were recorded in orchards (peach. grape. apple and almond). ornamental plant (lausonia, Decrostachys, poinciana regia, rose and gazon); some field crops (sugarcane, maize and broad beens). vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower. cow pea, artichoke and vegetables marrow as in nursery plants and young wood trees. because of the scarcity of knowledge about the Egyptian Scarabaeidae in genera1, the available published information were not helpfull enough to face the emerging problems of some Scarabaeidaeid species. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the entomologists and those concerned with pest control. to focus their attention on the improvement of our knowledge about this group of insects. The present work is ellentual1y a modest contribution in this way. The subject of this study is to shed lights on the biology and morphology of Pachnoda fasciata f. which is commonly known in Egypt as the peach coockchafer.
