Abstract Diabetic nephropathy is the commonest cause of ESRD in industrialized countries. A series of surveys of DM have been performed in Egypt and revealed a difference between urban and rural areas in prevalence of DM. Aim of the work: The aim of our study was to estimate the difference in prevalence of diabetic nephropathy as a cause of ESRD in urban and rural areas in Egypt. Methods of the study: Two (urban and rural) groups of ESRD patients were evaluated for evidence of diabetic nephropathy through a review of each patient data before and during dialysis treatment. Results: We found that: •Diabetic nephropathy is more prevalent in urban (18.7%) than in rural areas (11.8%) as a cause of ESRD in Egypt. •Diabetic nephropathy patients on dialysis are significantly older than dialysis patients with other causes of ESRD. |
