Abstract

The objectives of the present work were : (a) to manufacture a coinbine tillage unit which is suited to function in the soils suffering from salinity. (b) to stiidy the effect of plowing depth, soil moisture content, implement forward speed and plowing inachine type on the following indicators: 1- Soil properties (bulk density, porosity, penetration resistance, infiltratio~rl ate and rate of disturbed soil volume). - 2- Plowing quality (plowing, pulverization, mixing, inversion and disturbance degrees). 3- Crop component and benefit (root chy mass, root distributio~al rea, con1 yield and benefit). 4- Field perfo~~nancceh aracteristics (effective field capacity, field efficiency, drawbar pull, unit draft, power requirement, file1 consumption and cost analysis). The experiments were classified into laboratory and field experiments. All espcsi~lmlts were conducted at rice Mechanization Center, Meet El-Deeba, Kafr El-Slicikh Governorate during agricultural growing season of 199411995. All plowing maclli~les were tested under the followi~lgc onditions at four different il~lplcl~lcnfto ~wards pccds, three diffel-ent soil moistllre contents and two types of plowing depths. The following tillage machines which were utilized in the presellt st udj8 were : ” Modified mouldboard plow. * Ilota~yp low. ’: Ivlodilieti nlouldboard plow (one path) plus rotary plow (another path) ” M;~~i~~factcuolm-cbdi ne unit (one path).
