Abstract Corrosion problems in industry are important from the technical and economic point of view. An investigation was carried out on the corrosion problem in the outlet of fractionator air coolers, made of carbon steel, of Assiut Oil Refining Company. The studied variables include fluid velocity, % water cut, exposure time, extent of cold work, temperature, ammonia addition and H2S addition. The corrosion tests were performed in circulating flow loop at different conditions, and the rate of weight loss wass used to calculate the corrosion rate. Microscopic examination of specimens was also performed. It was found that the corrosion rate increases with fluid velocity and high H2S - content. The rate decreases with temperature, exposure time and higher contents of ammonia addition. The cold work increases the tendency to corrosion and the stress relief heat treatment decreases this effect. |
