Abstract

Recent developments in treatment of tinnitus have increased
the interest of neurotologists in the differential diagnosis of this
disorder and its management. These developments have also
resulted in intensified research directed at the identification of the
cause of tinnitus and treatment.
This study was designed to study the effect of intratympanic
injection of Lidocaine, dexamethasone and gentamicin in tinnitus
patients with study the effects on guinea pig cochlea, also to
evaluate the results clinically, and audiologically by pure tone
audiometry, TEOAEs and ABR.
The present study comprised a study group of 60 subjects
complaining of tinnitus divided into three groups for each drug and
a control group of 10 subjects complaining of tinnitus.
Both group had normal hearing and normal middle ear
functions, and injected with 0.5 ml once weekly for four weeks.
The study included also 12 guinea pig for intratympanic
injections of the three medication and another 4 for saline control
injection.
All patients in the present study were submitted to full history
taking, self-assessment tinnitus distress questionnaire, ontological,
head and neck examination. pure tone audiometry including air
and bone conduction, tynIponometey for middle ear functions
before T-tube insertion, TEOAEs and ABR C.T temporal bone and
ultrasonogroph for neck if nteded.
