Abstract - 98 - SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION In this study we are aiming to estimate the level of prostaglandins in patients with ischaemic heart diseases before and after aspirin therapy, and we investigated the possible role of aspirin therapy in management of ischaemic heart disease. Our results demonstrated that prostaglandin E2 levels were significantly higher ( P < 0.25) in patients with ischaemic heart disease than in normal subjeots. Also there was a signifioant deorease in PGE2 plasma level after aspirin therapy 300 mg/ every other day for 2 weeks compare d to those befor therapy (p < o,05). from the clinical point Of view, the patients under aspirin therapy showed a deoline in their exeroise toleranoe. Our results using treadmill exeroise tolerance test demonstrated a deorease in the tolerance in 18 out of 20 patients ofter aspirin. This decrease was found to be statistically significant (P<o.Ol). It may be that in such patients stresses that inccease myocardial oxygen demand would be less tolerated in presence of aspirin. - 99 - One point that must be emphasized, is that our results do not permit ·.d~:t;p.Ueconclusion about precise effect of aspirin in management of ischaemic heart disease, because we did not measure the coronary sinus PGs level. Laa t Ly we ”,dvise to stop the use of l:Ialicyl”t,es in treatment of ischaemic he”,rt diseases until the discovery of new specific drugs blocking the vasoconstrictor prostaglandins. |
