Abstract
Sudden loss of loads on power systems may result in overvoltages that cause damage~ to line insulators,power transformer and substation equipments. This thesis atte¬mpts,as an extension to the work done in. this fidd, to calculate these voltages after a sudden loss of loads on the terminal of a three-phase synchronous machine, on the receiving-end of a single-phase power system and on the receiving-end of a three-phase power system.
In the cas e of three-phase synchronous machines ,field and damper windings are taken into consideration. The method of prediction is fully explained and applied in the case of pure inductive loads.
In the case of power systems, the effects of trans ¬former saturation and transmission line capacitance arc included • A new method of representing transformer sat¬
developed and applied • The method of solution out by using a modified Runge-Kutta method.
Comparative experimental and theorftical results are given for the case of sudden loss of loads on the term¬als of a three-phase synchronous machine, and• on the eceiving-end of a single-and three-phase power systems.
