Abstract The present study has been conducted at the endocrinology and chest units of Ain-Shams university hospital during the period between 1st April 2001 to 1st March 2003. This clinical thesis was done to evaluate respiratory dysfunction in different thyroid states before and after treatment, to asses the relationship between bronchial asthma, hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism and to assess any relationship between respiratory disorders and thyroid gland size and thyroid autoimmunity. We conducted a case control study on 70 subjects. The 70 subjects were divided in to 4 groups: Group1; comprised 20 patients have recently diagnosed hyperthyroidism. Group2; comprised 20 patients have recently diagnosed hypothyroidism. Group3; was formed comprised 10 patients known to have bronchial asthma developed recently either hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. Group4; comprised 20 patients have goiter in euthyroid state as controls. All the subjects have been subjected to the following: 1-Complete history taking including age, sex, duration of the disease, symptoms of hyperthyroidism, symptoms of hypothyroidism and symptoms of respiratory affection. |
