Abstract The area cultivated with ”Anna” apple trees (Malus domestica, Borkh) is progressively increased in Egypt, reached around 89000 Feddans according to 1998 statistics. Low chilling requirements (Zayan and Morsy 1989), high productivity and regulär bearing (Kilany and Kilany, 1991), and accepted fruit qüality are the inain reasons for increasing its cultivated area in many subtropical countries äs well in Egypt. The use of the imported rootstocks instead of the unsuitable Balady and Barkher rootstocks encouraged more growers to increase their apple plantation. New rootstocks MM. 106 and Malus introduced. in Egypt (Kassem 1996 a). |
