In the shadow of the foriegn irfluence that affects all the aspects in the Islamic world. Both architecture and physical planning took a foriegn shape doesn’t coincide with the requirments which originate from the needs of the islamic society.
To face that by reviving the islamic values and disclosing them into architecture and physical planning. Since Islam is a comprehensive culture comprising the economic, social and administrative aspects.
What is the aim of this thesis? Before answering this question. an important and constant point is displayed, that the islamic implied isn’t gotten from the traditional architecture but it depends on the islamic thought and values. Arch, dome or mashrabiya is a singular appeared into the traditional architecture, Using them as a shapen symbol for architectural revival isn’t right.
So what originate from the religion is accentuated and except of that it must be studied and analyzed.
Returing to the methodology of the thesis. It is concerned with studying the planning criteira and the planning thought enlighted with both the effect of the islamic values and the modern scientific progress in construction and building modes. To put an enterance or a general image for the planning laws of the residential neighbourhood. As it services the social and religious needs of the society.
To achieve that by:
- Studying the different civil periods. and how the religious values reflected into the physical environment in those periods, to know and get the planning values which appeared in the ancient islamic cities.
- Knowing the factors that affect on the physical environment in Egypt, analyzing three residential distracts and consulting the sights of dwellers about how suitable the physical environment is to the needs of them. To specify the defects.
- Studying the influence of islamic values on residential neightbourhood and its planning thought. and limiting how the growth of this planning is inorder to control and administrate it.
- Finially studying the planning laws in Egypt to specify both its advantages and disadvantages. and putting a general image for the planning laws of the residential neighbourhood that coincide with any islamic society and the typical islamic identity.
