المستخلص

The Egyptian architecture used to present a pioneering model in its development. People from all over the world who come to visit Egypt often observe with admiration the beauty of this architecture which was the result of a unique civilisation.
For many reasons, that civilisation continued to decline especially after the industrial revolution in the eighteenth century Europe. Since then, rates of technological development have sharply increased. As a result, the Egyptian architect could not strike a balance between his own heritage on the one hand, and the new requirements on the other. Such new requirements have been imposed by the circumstances of contemporary scientific and technological progress, and thev resulting changes in social and ideological structures.
Thus, Egypt has been transformed from a generous source of civilisation to an imitator of what the West has got to offer. As a corollary, western architecture penetrated Egypt; once in a classical form, and once in a modern form. Egypt has become a field for architectural experiments in a time when the architect’s role was highly marginal due to immense involvement in western architectural theories.
as a result of the failure of western approaches to respond to local needs, especially after the II World War, there appeared in different parts of the world many other approaches that call for the strengthening of local values. Such a cell has become serious and aims to revitalise our own values in coherence with needs and requirements of both our time and society, and without sacrificing our long-rooted heritage.
