Abstract

Touristic holiday villages is a new type of the touristic accommodations which has been found by the influence of some human needs and the development of living patterns in the recent era.
The First Chapter of this research has studied the recent movements of tourism as an approach to study the touristic accommodation in general and touristic villages in particular. Therefore this chapter has concentrated on the difination of tourism as a human phenomenon has its social, cultural and economical dimensions and has its historical roots which led - by time passing - to the recent types of tourism. This chapter has also studied the properities of tourism manufactoring and its consequences on the society of application.
The study has included the circumstances of tourism in Egypt on the international tourism map, the number of tourists and touristic nights and the hotel occupying ratios and the future prospects of tousism in Egypt.
The first chapter has also included study about the potintiality of Egypt for tourism. This study based on the governmental policies for the development of tourism. The posibilities of tourist development in the different rigions of Egypt have also been studied.
The Second Chapter of this work has aimed to define the touristic accommodations and the factors influence its architecture properties in general. It has been classifed into main classes (Hotel, Resorts, Social ”Supplementary” accommodations and Residential accomodations). Under each of those classes there are number of accommodation types. The architectural properties of each type have been reviewed and could be summarised under the Design or Planning cosiderations. The second chapter has ended by a brief about the development of the resorts and the supplementary accommdations.
In the Third Chapter an analytical study has been made upon a group of touristic villages. They have been classified - according to their management policy - to three classes: Hotel type, Socialistic type and Time-Sharing type.
Common attributions of the above types have been reached about the following items:-
- Planning & Designing data of the village elements.
- The planning relationships between the elements of the village and the walking distance between them.
The Fourth Chapter has included a field survey made upon the occupance of the tourism villages, thus to make a connection between the theoritical study and the reality.
The field survey has included the following points:-
- Exploring the characteristics of the red sea tourists.
- Evaluating the efficiency of the red sea tourism villages to meet the needs of their users.
- Approaching the planning and design criteria and the physical relations between the elements of the villages grom the point of view of the users.
The Research has ended by some results & recommendations which could be useful for designers and planners of touristic holiday villages.
