Abstract

The array of proteins found within the cell, their’ interactions and modifications hold the key to understanding biologic systems. This is encapsulated in the term ”proteome”. It can be defined as the protein population of a cell, characterized in terms of localization, post translational modifications, interactions, and turnover, at any given time. Annotation of the genome, studying of’ protein expression, function, modifications, and protein-protein interactions comprise prospects of applications in the field of proteomics that has become an important. step in the development and validation of diagnostics and therapeutics. Most techniques currently used in proteomics involve the separation of the vast number of proteins present in a cell or tissue prior to analysis by mass. Spectrometry recognition and characterization using bioinformatics techniques. The development of highly sensitive protein micro arrays makes it possible to profile the states of protein signal pathways in tissue biopsies, aspirates or body fluid samples.
