In the first chapter, the research deals with the aesthetic discipline as an introduction to the main objective of the study, which is the discipline of architectural aesthetics, its appreciation, and impact on the society. We recognize aesthetics and its relationship with utility, axioms, religeon, and experience. Also, the relationship with phelosophy, its evalution and phelosophy during the Greek era, where it was first studied. Further, aesthetics during christian, moslem, and modern eras. The chapter is concluded with an insight of the various methodologies of aesthetics.
The second chapter discusses architectural aesthetics on the basis that architectural art is an integral part of fine arts. However, it differs from the latter insofar as locality, its intimate relation with technology, and the peoples participation in the evalution of the architectural work according to their varying cultures and environments.
The architectural image incumbent on some principles, and some factors which influence the aesthetics of the architectural work. It is worth mentioning that architectural aesthetics rests on craftsmanship and shillfulness.
Natural beauty and architectural aesthetics may intermingle but do not coincide.
Since every architectural work has a material existance, therefore voices called for the respect of the substance as one of the aspects of aesthetics. Thereis a certain inter relationship between the aesthetic functions and architectural utility, where our perception of the function of the building is combined with our responses to its aesthetics. It also deals with the aesthetic values from the pharaonic era through the modern age.
The third chapter discusses man’s ascendance above mere survival, he aspires to development in his quest for gratification. Man initially builds to shelter himself, and as he aquires dexterity, he developes a language of form which in turn evolves gradually to work emotions such as admiration and enjoyment. The natural of architectural art, the source of the sense of pleasure vis-a-vis architecture, the unsavory feeling, and the principles of design and its’ effect on architectural appreciation.
Chapter four that argues the relationship between architecture and society is reciprocal. The construction of huge temples with its various sections had its impact on society, where the priests were exalted and reveered.
The fifth chapter is a field study geared toward an evaluation of architectural aesthetic by examining the factors which influence the aesthetics of a building, and renders a feeling of aesthetic pleasure, where in the aesthetic aspect is subject to measurement. Several results and general recommendations were concluded.
