Agricultural ~noderoization is corlsirlered to be an essential element in tlic acceleration of agricultural developmerit process. Therefore, tlie overall objective of the present study was to assess levels of agrici~ltural modernization and to determine their causes. To achieve this ol)jective, the following specific tasks were stated: - To build a conceptual frame of agricultural nioder-nization on tlie basis of existing researcl~ studies. - To c~nstruct indexes en2 assess the thee:-etical and statistical adequacies of the selected eliipiricai iliciex~s ;a identifi agricultural nlodcniizat ion degr-e. - To identify filctors that are related, detenninated, and more effective in exp!aIning the variance in agricultural liotlcr-nizaiot ~i and its co~llpo~ic~its. I rescarch was conducted ill three villagcs I Sidi-Salem district, Kafr El-Sheikh governorate. They are Alcl~u~, Al- Mas11arq::Ii a~id al-Easawia villages. A stratified ra:ldooi sample - or1 the basis of existing modeni agricultural technology aid practices in these villages- was selected. 27 1 farmers were personaly interviewed to collect the data tlu-ough constructed schedules. The data were coded, tabulated and statisticcally analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, tnultiple- linear regression, t-test, z-scores and reliability estimates tec!~nic-,aes. Based oil the eii-e review, the study has adopted a co~iccptual [samework hi views agricult~ir-a1 tllodcrnization.
