SUMMARY
This work evaluated streptococcal grouping by means
of slide agglutination test using specifically sensitized
latex part ides after enzymatic extraction of
group specific carbohydrate antigen is more simple
rapid and reliable method for groupings.
Among 44 selected streptococcal isolates from
upper respiratory tract infections, wound infections
and gentio urinary infections, these selected strains
picked up, identified primiarly by colony morphology,
type of haemolysis and by films these were
grouped by latex the result of this groupind were
18 isolates of group A, 6 isolates group B, 5 isolates
group C and l( isolates group D.
* The groups A,B and C were beta haemolytic.
* Haemolysis was variable in group D isolates.
Each group tested was confirmed by its own presumtive
tests avaliable.
* For group A isolates: bacitracin sensitivity were
done 15 isolates were sensitive and 3 isolates
were resistant and the correlation of bacitracin
with L.A was 83.3%.
-87-
* For group B isolates: all of them hydrolyze
hippurate and the correlation was 100%.
* The group C not tested.
* For group D all strains gives positive bile salt
tolerance and 6.5 Nacl tolerance which indicates
that all isolates were enterococcal and the correlation
was 100%.
The overall correlation of strains tested with
their presumptive testes used from 83.3 to 100%.
from the above we conculds that latex agglutination
test (Streptex) is more simple, rapid and reliable
method for grouping streptococci.
