Abstract
Conclusions & recommendations
from our study we concluded that determination of IL-6 is a
helpful tool to differentiate early onset sepsis from TIN which
comprises a large group of newborns with respiratory symptoms
that is evaluated for sepsis during that period and hence it
decreases the antibiotic exposure, unnecessary investigations and
hospital stay. On the other hand IL-6 estimation did not exclude
newborns with HMD.
It is recommended to use IL-6 for the diagnosis of neonatal
sepsis and exclusion of TIN which is considered a self limited
respiratory disorder.
