Abstract The work on this thesis is composed of 3 parts. The first part talked about purine and uric acid metabolism. Mammals and most lower vertebrae are capable of synthesizing for purine and pyrimidine. The second part studies serum uric concentration i5 50 healthy pregnant women and 50 pre-eclamptic patients in the last trimister • of pregnancy. beside of pregnant cases with essential hypertension. In normal pregnancy the values were 3.3 ! 0.9 mg’. 3.35 !1 mg’ + lli lli lli and 3.57 - 1.05 mg% in the 7 • 8 and 9 month respectively. In pre-eclampsia group, hyperuricaemia characteristic’biochemical feature but the cause of hyperuricaemia has not been determined. Impaired glomerular filtration rate and the increase in tubular reabsorption of urate may be a cause. IN pregnancy with hypertension group serum uric acid level was normal «6mg%). It was noticed that serum uric acid levels were significantly higher in severe pre-eclampsia than in mild pre-eclampsia and both were significantly higher than in pregnancy with hypertension. The second part studied serum uric acid levels in relation to fetal outcome. It was noticed that higher levels of serum uric acid were associated with high perinatal mortality generally in association with severe pre-ecl~psia. Also higher levels were associated with low birth weights. ” All, the data obtained from-thesis confirm that hyperuricaemia clearly reflecs the severity of the disease and the measurement of serum uric acid levels in hypertensive pregnancy is greatest in the 7Lh month. Low values indicate ~ good prognosis for the feturesing values at this time define a small number of very high risk patients who are better munuqnd in ho~pit~l. |
