Abstract he urinary tract is a relatively common site of infection in infants and young children. The high prevalence of UTI and potential morbidity associated with complications require careful diagnosis and management. However, since asymptomatic colonization of the urinary tract may occur, other features such as the presence of inflammatory cytokines may be needed to definitively diagnose a UTI The present study involved thirty patients treated with antibiotic for acute pyelonephritis, as well as, twenty eight apparently healthy children as control regarding urinary level of IL-If}. Urine was collected from all patients for bacteriological examination. Clinical picture and laboratory results were taken into consideration. Measurement of urinary IL-lfi level by EIA in urine of all patients, as well as, control group was done, All patients had positive urine culture with a total of 30 isolated bacterial strains. |
