The main objective of the study is to evaluate the impact of economic liberalization policy on the performance efficiency of the agricultural credit and agrarian cooperatives in Kafi El-Sheikh governorate. In addition, socio-economic determinants of performance efficiency of the agricultural cooperatives are to be identified and studied. The study includes four chapters, the first one deals with the . cooperatives structure in Kafi El-Sheikh. Chapter two comprises a review of literature, where chapter three includes the methodology and data used for the analysis, and chapter four comprises the study results and discussion. Evaluation process in the last two chapters is confined to: A)Estimation of the economic surplus attained by the study cooperatives. identification of the present financial and human resources available for both credit and agrarian coops. These resources are considered as determinants of the cooperative performance efficiency. C)Cooperative financial solvency and ability to meet its current obligations. The above three issues are considered before and after the application of economic liberalization policy measures. Finally, a correlation and regression analysis is carried out to study the statistical relationship between the economic surplus and other measures as performance indicators and the financial and human resources available to both credit and agrarian Coops. Results of this analysis help the analyst, as well as the policy makers in identifying the socio-economic determinants of the cooperative performance efficiency. A comparison of the cooperatives performance efficiency indicators before and after the economic liberalization policy is followed was also made to study the impact of this policy on cooperatives performance, its financial solvency, and ability to meet its current obligations. Results of the above comparison show: For the credit cooperatives: A decrease was shown in the ration of economic surplus leguidity, net returns, circulation of total assets, circulation of current by about 96%, 16%, 13 1 % and 92%, respectively. While the value of capital, current assets, current debits, total assets and inventories had increased by about 38%, 35%, 23%, 35%, and 43%, respectively. For the Agrarian cooperatives: A decrease was shown in the ration of economic surplus, not returns, circulation of the total assets, circulation of current assets by about 61%, 61%, 46%, and 48%, respectively. While the value of capital current assets, current debits, current capital and total assets has increased by about 226%, 136%, 145%, 304% and 128%, respectively. Correlation and regression analysis results for the credit cooperatives show: 1) A significant positive relationship between the rate of economic surplus and the size of membership. The same relationship was shown between the ratio of net returns to capital and the level of Coop. Communication with other rural organizations. 2) A significant positive relationship between the circulation rate of the total assets and the personal qualities and experience of the cooperative personal. For the Agrarian Cooperatives, the results show: 1) A significant positive relationship between the rate of economic surplus and the physical assets of the Coops. The same relationship. was shown between the ratio of net returns to capital and physical assets. 2) A significant and positive relationship between the total assets rate of circulation and the personal qualities and experience of cooperative personal. The same relationship was shown between the rate of total assets circulation and the level of communication with other coops and the size of cooperative membership.
