Abstract In the present study, we designed to investigate the possible relation of diabetic retinopathy and nephropathy to some coagulation abnormalities (plasma fibrinogen, plasma fibrin degradation products, von Willebrand factor and platelet aggregation and selected trace elements (copper, zinc, magnesium, selenium, and phosphorus). Considering the metabolic control of diabetes mellitus and its implication on these diabetic complications. The material of this study comprised 60 NIDDM patients. They were selected from the Diabetic Outpatient Clinic and Diabetic Inpatients of the Internal Medicine Department at Alexandria University Hospital. All selected patient were free from medical diseases except diabetes mellitus and were not receiving drug therapy except oral hypoglycemic drugs. They were classified according to the presence or absence of diabetic retinopathy or nephropathy into three groups :a group 1 : Twenty four diabetic patients with retinopathy.a group 2 : Sixteen diabetic patients with nephropathy. a group 3 : Twenty diabetic patients were selected to be matched for age, sex and duration of the disease but without retinopathy or nephropathy. |
