Abstract

Chronic HCV infection has been associated with a variety of extrahepatic disorders, in which either immunological or cytopathic mechanisms are likely to play a role. Accordingly, it is postulated that HCV infection is not only a liver disease but rather a systemic infection that affects other, organ’s of the body. It has been observed that HCV infection is associated with development of DM,I The aim of this work is tq study whether a p-cell dysfunction with decreased insulin release qr insulin resistance with decreased tissue sensitivity to insulin or both are present in patients with chronic infection. Oar study was conducted on three groups of subjects: Group I: 20 type 2 diabetic patients with hepatitis due to HCV • infection. Group 2: 20 type 2 diabetic patients. Group 3: healthy persons of same age and type as control group, Those patients were subjected to the following: 1- Full history talking2- Though clinical examination 3- Fasting bipod sugar and post prandial blood sugar. 4- Hepatic transaminases (SGOJT, SGPT). 5- HCV Ab. (second generation). 6- Fasting insulin level.
