Abstract

In addition to their virilizing effects in the reproductive tracts of males, androgens have anabolic effects on skeletal muscles (Antonio et al., 1999). It is well established that the human aging process ,from maturity to senescence , is associated with a significant decline in neuromuscular function and performance (Bhasin et l.,2003).The physical activity is good for health and favorably prevents most metabolic disorders ,such as obesity and atherosclerosis (Nieman et al.,2002).
The aim of the present investigation is to study the possible beneficial effect of testosterone treatment and treadmill exercise on serum CPK, serum testosterone, skeletal muscle contraction and it’s glucose uptake in castrated rats.
Forty adult male albino rats weighting 150-200 grams, each, were used in this investigation. Rats were divided into following groups :
• Non-castrated group:
• Castrated castrated non-exercised non-treated group:
In which rats were surgically castrated
• Castrated exercised group:
In which castrated rats were submitted to testosterone treatment for 4 weeks .
• Castrated combined exercised and treated group
