Recent studies have suggested a possible epidemiological association of Helicobacter pylori infection and the development of coronary heart disease, thrombo-occlusive cerebral disease, or both. Diabetic patients are an at-risk population for coronary heart and cerebrovascular diseases. The importance of this link is that H.pylori infection can be effectively treated thus opening possibilities of lowering the vascular disease risks in diabetic patients.
The aim of this work was to study a possible association of Helicobacter pylori infection with cardiovascular disease in type 2 diabetic
patients.
The study included 180 subjects classified into four groups:
Group I: included 75 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus . and coronary
heart disease.
Group II : included 50 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Group III: included 30 patients with coronary heart disease. .Group IV: included 25 matched controls.
