Abstract Osseointegrated dental implants have proven to be predictably successful when appropriate guidelInes are followed. The technique as outlined by Branemark includes a post-extraction period of up to 12 months in order to allow for bone healing. This delay, combined with ridge resorption following extraction, may contribute to several problems. Insufficient available bone for ideal implant placement and prolonged treatment time are two common difficulties. Immediate implant surgery offers a predictable immediate solution to tooth loss. It has several advantages compared to traditional procedure that provides a healing period of 6 to 12 months between the time of extraction and subsequent implant placement. Advantages and indications of immediate implantation: The utilization of immediate implant placement achieves the following: 1- Treatment time is reduced, since prosthodontic therapy can be initiated as really 3 months after extraction. 2- Avoids or reduces the usual postextraction resorbtion, enabling maximal utilization of bone-implant surface area.
