Abstract

Porcelain laminate veneers are now increasing in popularity for
treatment of unaesthetic anterior teeth. They can be fabricated in different vvays, including the conventional refractory die technique, and the Cerec CAD-CAM method, which is one of the latest technologies in the dental practice.
The aim of the this work was to evaluate the Cerec 1, Cerec 2 and the conventional porcelain laminate veneers in terms of fit, microleakage and shear bond strength to the tooth surface.
Thirty maxillary central incisors were used for the fit and microleakage tests. They received standardized preparation using a customized metal template. The prepared teeth were divided into three groups of ten each. In group 1, the preparations were restored with Cerec
• 1 laminate veneers; while group 2 with the Cerec 2 and group 3 with conventional laminate veneers After staining and thermocycling, the teeth with their bonded laminates were sectioned by two cuts (incisogingivally and misiodistally).
Fit of was evaluated by measuring the cement thickness beneath the laminate veneers at definite locations and points of measurement using a stereomicroscope and an image processing software package on a computer system. Using the same technique, microleakage was assessed by measuring the degree of dye penetration in each specimen at the four margins (ceivical, incisal, mesial and distal)
