Abstract

Fifteen patients having only single standing mandibular canine opposing completely edentulous maxilla were selected. These patients were categorized according to the pattern of their treatment modalities into three groups:
Group I: Mandibular overdenture supported by single standing canine prepared to receive dome-shaped metallic coping with post extended inside the root canal.
Group II: Mandibular overdenture supported by natural canine and endosseous implant at the contra-lateral canine area of the arch. Both abutments prepared in a dome-shaped configuration.
Group III: Mandibular overdenture supported by both natural canine and endosseous implant connected by bar joint.

The natural abutments were evaluated clinically through (crevicular fluid volume analysis and attachment level changes) and radio-graphically by (marginal bone height and density changes). These evaluations were established at time of loading, 6, 9, 12 months. The data were collected and the values of change between each successive time were tabulated.
The results of the present study showed slight changes in the crevicular fluid volumes with no apparent significancy regarding the effect of time or the treatment modality. Moreover, the second group showed the least mean changes among other groups followed by the third and first group respectively.
