Abstract Nosocomial infection by methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a major health problem as it is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in large teaching hospital and infections caused by them require specialized chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence rate of methicillin resistant Staph aureus (MRSA) in shebin EL- Kom teaching Hospital using 3 different methods disk diffusion test oxacillin screen agar base (ORSAB) and the E- test. Also to analyze the plasmid profile of the isolated MRSA and to estimate the rate of MRSA carriage among hospital staff.
