Abstract

In patients with CRF,protein caloric malnutrition is a common problem. It was associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Numerous factors contribute to malnutrition but decreased food intake due to anorexia is probanly the most important (stanvinkel et al, 1999). The present study was aimed to study serum leptin concentration in patients with CRF under different modalities of treatment and to study the relationship between serum leptin and nutritional parameters, anorexia and anemia in these patients. The study included 60 patients with CRF classified into three groups: 20 under haemodialysis, 20 under peritoneal dialysis and 20 under conservative treatment. It also included so healthy subjects served as controls full clinical history, complete clinical examination, anthropometric measurements including (BMI , TSFT and WHR )and abdominal U.S were done to all studjects. The following laboratory investigation were also made to all subjects: 1- Routing investigations included fasting blood glucose, serum albumin, serum urea, serum creatinine , creatinine clearance, serum uric acid , serum electrolytes (Na+, K+, Ca++ & ph.), and complete blood picture.
