It is essential to give an overview on one of the most important security aspects in the modern world today , which is biometrics recognition system . the biometrics recognition is occupying a very vital place in the security means . The personal identification is to associate a particular individual with his identity and plays a critical role in our society . Biometric recognition refers to an automatic recognition of individuals based on a feature vector derived from their physiological and /or behavioral characteristic .
This thesis has two objectives . First , studying the possibility of improving the automatic authentication process , used computer vision system , by enhancing the poor fingerprint image . This is accomplished by suggesting some preprocessing techniques before the feature extraction , classification and matching stages . Second , is to simulate and design a powerful fingerprint recognition system . The system proposed aims to solve the problem enhancement of the poor fingerprint image .
The first objective was accomplished by suggesting an improved algorithm for enhancement of fingerprint image . the proposed method includes adding adaptive filtering and segmentation stages to the traditional fingerprint image enhancement methods based on Gabor filter . The adaptive filtering step enhance the edges of the fingerprints . The segmentation step combines four techniques to separate the fingerprint image from the background .
Also we present an improved algorithm for feature extraction stage to extract the feature from good , medium ,and poor fingerprint image . The proposed algorithm is based on Poincare algorithm and algorithm was proposed by Jain el al .Our algorithm work well poor quality fingerprint image and can determine all singular points in the fingerprint image . These features are used in the classification and matching stages.
