Abstract Since normal concrete is subjected to bleeding and segregation during casting process, Vibration is necessary for compaction especially in reinforced concrete sections with dense reinforcement ratios. So that self – compacted concrete (SCC) has good properties compared to normal concrete ,it is compacted under it’s own weight . Self- compacted concrete is anew generation of special concrete ,where no inner or outer vibration is necessary needed for compaction . The main objective of this research is to study the fresh and mechanical properties of self-compacted concrete. For fresh properties of self – compacted concrete ,normal , modified slump flow test ,L-Box test , V-funnel test, and J-ring test , were used . Static compression test , indirect tension test, flexural test and modulus of elasticity test , were preformed to determine self – compacted concrete hardened properties. Both silica fume and fly ash powder were used with different percentages to achieve good rheological properties of self-compacted concrete . Viscosity enhancing agent with different percentages of cement weight was used to satisfy fillingability , passingability , workability and deformability properties . Two types of coarse aggregate (gravel and dolomite) were included in this study . The experimental results show that the percentage of viscosity enhancing agent (VEA) is very important in self – compacted concrete mixes. The optimum value of viscosity enhancing agent achieves good rheological properties ranging from 2% to 4% . Dolomite was recommended than gravel in production of self – compacted concrete mixes . From results of fresh properties , normal slump ,v-funnel ,and j-ring tests are suitable to carry out quality control tests of self – compacted concrete . |
