Abstract
The present study was conducted on 30 subjects. They were Stratified into 2 groups: group I (lBS groups) , they were twenty patients with symptoms suggestive of irritable bowel syndrome according to Rome criteria II, they were 6 male (30%) and 14 female (70%) and their ages were ranging from 18 years to
50 years with a mean value of (36.5±13.2 years) and this group underwent upper endoscopy and colonoscopy and random biopsies were taken from gastric and colonic mucosa for histological examination and group II (control group), they
wereten healthy volunteers with no symptoms suggestive of irritable bowel syndrome, they were (5) male and (5) female matched by age and gender. They
were chosen from referrals to the endoscopy unite of Menoufiya University Hospital.
The following patients were excluded:
Patient with Diabetes Mellitus.
2. Patient with chronic liver disease.
3. Patient with ischemic heart disease.
4. Patient with chronic renal failure.
5. Patient with history of abdominal surgery.
6. Patient with history of connective tissue disease.
7. Patient with history of current infection or bacterial overgrowth.
8. Patient with evident neurotic or psychiatric disorder.
. Patient with previous history of treatment with proton pump
_nhibitors, H2 receptor antagonist or antibiotic within month.
10. Patients with thyroid disease.
